    Description

Rare note hand-written in pencil to renowned American journalist and historian Mark Sullivan (1874-1952) by Herbert Hoover likely requesting assistance with editing a speech he was preparing.  When called upon by Hoover, Sullivan would assist with the preparation of speeches and addresses to the public.
Mark Sullivan was considered one of the most widely respected journalists of his day corresponding with Presidents Theodore Roosevelt, William Taft, Woodrow Wilson, Warren Harding, Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover.  Sullivan was also a confidant to Theodore Roosevelt as well as a good friend and confidant to Herbert Hoover.  In addition to Presidents, Sullivan corresponded with many notable politicians, businessmen and literary figures of the day including Arthur Conan Doyle who he was good friends with as well as Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Orville Wright and many other prominent and influential people from the 1890's to mid 1900's.
Sullivan wrote and published between 1926-1935 a six volume book by the title 'Our Times 1900-1925' which chronicled the social and political history of America from the 1890's to 1920's.
Sullivan correspondence can be found archived in the manuscript division of the Library of Congress and in the Herbert Hoover Institution Archives.
Hand-written correspondence by Herbert Hoover is rarely found and hand-written letters and notes tended to be spontaneous and personal. Hoover himself indicated "I do not write more than one letter per annum with my own hand."   Hand-written correspondence by Hoover during his years as President are even more elusive and considered exceptionally rare and practically impossible to find.  Very few letters/notes of correspondence written by Hoover as President have ever been offered for sale.
The note is hand-written using pencil on paper and signed by Hoover with his initial on a plain sheet of white paper which is tannish toned with age and has fold creases.
