Antique United Airlines MainlinersChild's Doll Luggage/Tea Serving set
This very rare souvenir was for children flying on United Airlines with their parents in the 1940s and 1950s.
Back in the 1940s, United Airlines introduced their latest luxury aircraft - the DC-3 and many more upgraded airplanes to their fleet. Also known as the Mainliners! This ushered in a new era in swankness and luxury for airline passengers. Like oceanliners, the airlines offered meal service with linens and china.
This piece of "luggage" was for the child airline traveler. Made to look like a suitcase. this cardboard box is dressed up in printed paper to match the style of suitcases one might have used in the 1940s and 1950s... When opened, the piece becomes a personal serving tray with two folded printed linen cloth napkins to place your small saucer and tea cups to a children could have a team party in flight. This set does not have the saucers and tea cups (maybe the airline offered these from the plan's inventory). Included, and still wrapped in original plastic is a "Puss In Boots" small comic illustrated book for your child's adventure in air.
The "tray with linen napkins" does not remove from the box. The space underneath may have eebn used for carrying the child's dolls and accessories.
This "luggage" measures 7 inches long, about 4.5 inches wide and 2,25 inches deep. Overall, there is noticeable wear to the faux leather luggage strap. A child probably played with the set. Please see photographs for more details on condition.
A must-have for the airlines memorabilia collector!
