This is a complete double set of authentic PRESIDENTIAL AIRPLANE PLAYING CARDS from 'The Independence' gifted by President Harry S. Truman to a former member of the President's staff. Both decks are emblazoned with images of 'The Independence' (forerunner to Air Force One), the White House and the Presidential Seal, and feature a rich gilded edge. One deck is colored in Mint Green and the second in Truman's favorite Blue Smoke. Both decks contain all 52 cards plus 2 Congressional Jokers. Each ace is themed with a branch of the U.S. Armed Services. The cards are in excellent vintage condition and retain their vibrant original coloring and rich golden edging, with no bends folds or cuts. A few cards have minor top wear, consistent with age and use, and the face of each card is unblemished. The original, sectioned blue & gold box is emblazoned with the Presidential Seal and contains the original top insert and two bottom inserts. The box is in excellent vintage condition and retains its rich coloring, and shows only minor wear consistent with age and use.
This is the most valuable and sought after of all Presidential playing cards, followed by original JFK Air Force One playing cards. Individual 'Independence' playing cards routinely command and more at auction. Finding a complete double-deck set of Truman 'Independence' playing cards is unprecedented.
