    Description

This two-volume set is "Eight Years With Wilson's Cabinet 1913-1920 with a personal estimate of the president'' by David F. Houston and published as stated first editions by Doubleday Page.
David Franklin Houston (February 17, 1866 - September 2, 1940) was an American academic, businessman and conservative Democratic politician. He served under President Woodrow  Wilson as secretary of agriculture and later as secretary of the treasury. Under President William McKinley he was on the board of visitors of the U.S. Military Academy. Later in life, he was an overseer of Harvard University and a Trustee of Columbia University. Houston arrived at the Treasury Department as World War I was ending, and his tenure was marked by controversies over monetary policies. He was ex officio chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. A New York Times review of this work in 1926 said of Houston, "Many considered him the ablest man intellectually in the Wilson Cabinet."
Each hardcover volume measures 6 1/2 by 9 3/4 inches. The boards are burgundy cloth with gilt lettering on the spines and a facsimile of the author's signature on the fronts. The boards show compromised cloth and evidence of very old damp-staining at the fore edges, the pages are lightly age-toned and a bit foxed, and an old price is noted in pencil on the corner of the first free endpaper. However, the interiors are in good shape, and the contents outweigh any condition issues. The unclipped dust jackets show wear and are missing the spines.
